How KOKO Installments Work for Buying Electronics in Sri Lanka
A plain-English guide to paying for phones, tablets and tech in 3 installments with KOKO — how it works, what the 12% plan fee costs you, and how to use it at DreamTek.
update Updated 29 July 2026
Buying a new phone, tablet or smartwatch often means a big one-off payment. KOKO lets you split that cost into three smaller payments — so you can get the genuine product now and spread the payment over time, for a modest fee. Here’s exactly how it works when you shop at DreamTek, and what it costs.
What is KOKO?
KOKO is a “buy now, pay later” service used widely across Sri Lanka. Instead of paying the full price upfront, you pay in 3 equal installments, and KOKO charges you no interest on those payments. You get your order straight away; KOKO pays the merchant and you repay KOKO. Using a KOKO plan at DreamTek carries a 12% fee on top of our cash price — see the costs below.
It’s designed for everyday purchases — exactly the kind of mid-range electronics most people buy: a new Android phone, a pair of earbuds, a power bank, or a tablet for the family.
How the 3 installments work
The maths is simple — the KOKO total (our cash price plus the 12% plan fee) is divided into three:
- Installment 1 — paid at checkout, when you place the order.
- Installment 2 — paid one month later.
- Installment 3 — paid the month after that.
So a tablet priced at LKR 60,000 cash comes to LKR 67,200 on a KOKO plan: roughly LKR 22,400 today, then two more payments of LKR 22,400.
On every DreamTek product page and category page, you’ll see the per-installment amount worked out for you (e.g. “or 3 × LKR 22,400 with KOKO”), with the 12% fee already included — so there are no surprises.
Want to try it with any price? Use our free KOKO installment calculator — enter a price or pick a product to see your three payments, or tell it your budget and it’ll show you what fits.
What you need to use KOKO
- A Sri Lankan mobile number and NIC
- A debit or credit card to set up the installment schedule
- To be approved by KOKO (approval is quick and happens on their side)
DreamTek doesn’t handle your card details or run the credit check — that’s all on KOKO’s secure platform. We simply confirm your order and arrange delivery.
What does KOKO actually cost?
KOKO charges you no interest on the three payments themselves, and no extra if you pay each one on schedule (read KOKO’s own current terms for late-payment fees). What it does cost is the 12% plan fee DreamTek applies to KOKO orders, so a KOKO plan totals 12% above our cash price.
Put plainly: if you can pay in full, cash on delivery or bank transfer is the cheaper option — you pay exactly the listed price. KOKO is worth the 12% when spreading the cost over two months is what makes the purchase possible in the first place.
How to pay with KOKO at DreamTek
There is no checkout page to work through, so the flow is refreshingly simple:
- Browse the catalogue and open the product you want.
- Tap Order — Cash on Delivery and fill in your name, phone number and delivery address. The product, price and SKU are attached automatically.
- Write KOKO in the order note. We call you back to set up the installment plan and confirm delivery.

You can also pay by cash on delivery or bank transfer if you prefer — both at our listed price, with no plan fee. KOKO is just one of the options.
Which products is KOKO best for?
KOKO shines on those mid-priced buys where splitting the cost makes a real difference:
- Smartphones — spread the cost of a new daily driver
- Tablets — see our best tablets in Sri Lanka guide
- Smartwatches and wireless earbuds
- Power banks and other accessories
Not sure whether KOKO is right for your order? Work the numbers through the installment calculator first — seeing the three payments and the plan fee side by side against the cash price usually answers it.
